Happy International Nurses Day - 12th of May 2020
International Nurse Day is an opportunity to celebrate the adoration and respect we have within our profession, not only for what we do, but also for each other and the people we care for.
We celebrate International Nurses Day on the 12th of May—the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Florence Nightingale was the mother of nursing and taught us the compassion that comes naturally to nurses of the past, present, and future.
This year’s theme is nursing the world to health with a focus on the value that nurses bring to the people of the world. In the world’s current climate this theme fits soundly.
COVID-19 has affected us all deeply, and throughout the struggles and changes we’ve experienced we can sometimes lose sight of the remarkable work we do. But International Nurses Day is a chance to recognize the value that we bring to the community every day, while praising our colleagues and praising ourselves.
The world has been in state of mild chaos recently, but nurses have been persevering throughout everything to heal and care for the people of the world, which is the fundamental characteristic of being a nurse.
While to be a nurse means to think on your feet, act quickly, use a perfected combination of science and art, and to balance emotions; it’s also the act of consistently but humbly showing our innate compassion to the world.
To be a nurse means to show a constant and conscious honor to others, which is why we are also celebrating our patients this year. People are the core of our careers. This year we will celebrate the people we have cured, helped, or been a shoulder to lean on throughout our careers.
These moments of being a professional in the medical industry are irreplaceable, and the moments that we have a chance to honour.
International Nurses Day allows the value we’ve added to other people’s lives be reciprocated back to us. It is a day to celebrate ourselves and our colleagues—not only the people we work with every day, but the nurses and patients all over the world.
While this year we will celebrate a little differently, we can still wear our scrubs with an illuminated sense of pride as the world awes at our ability to nurse the world to health.

Happy International Nurses Day.
